American Roadside
By Deborah Gray Mitchell
August 1st to September 15th

A photographer on a road trip, when riding shotgun to a non-photographer, sees thousands of images pass through her eyes. Split-second compositions. Look now for they’ll soon be gone. There’s no time to stop, no time to wait for the right light, no time to capture those compositions. Miles to go before we sleep. Miles to go before we sleep.

A woman traveling alone is always vulnerable, and the fear of “what might happen” is always on her mind. Stopping the car on the side of a lonely road, or in the middle of a poor neighborhood, to photograph what’s caught her eye, is always a gamble. Having seen countless numbers of split-second compositions; however, during countless road trips, Deborah Gray Mitchell finally decided to stop. In Little Haiti, on U.S. 27 Alternate in North Florida, and off the beaten path in South Georgia … she finally stopped.

All images were shot with Canon Digital Cameras, and processed in Photoshop CS4. Prints are 20x30” and are printed on Fuji Color Paper, Satin Finish. Prints may be seen during gallery hours or by special arrangement.
